See it in action
Learning Accelerator templates are easy to access, quick to use and brimming with learning design expertise. But while it’s all well and good to say that, let’s face it – you want proof! In this blog post, we’ll do just that.
Read on to see how we used a template to create one of our latest Showcase courses, the Financial Crime Challenge , and witness the simple steps of Learning Accelerator in action.
Here are the 6 simple steps to adapt a Learning Accelerator template to meet your needs.
1. Select a style
After choosing Learning Accelerator from the Start page, our first step was to select a style to apply to the template. If you’ve already got a style set up with your organization’s branding then this will apply it to any template instantly.
Note, the style you choose at this stage isn’t set in stone. You can always change it later on in the process, whether you want to swap it completely or just edit it further.
2. Select a template or get a recommendation
Once we’d named and saved the project, we were ready to choose our template.
If you’re not sure which template would work for your project’s goals you can choose to ‘get a recommendation’ . This option asks you a series of questions to get under the skin of your project, before serving up templates tailored to your needs.
We knew that we were looking for a quiz template as we wanted to create a financial crime test, so we chose to ‘see all templates’ so we could browse the selection.
When we were browsing the available templates we used the filtering dropdown to narrow down to the kind of template we wanted – in this case, ‘quizzes & games’ .
We loved the idea of adding game features to liven up our compliance test, so we opted for one of the ‘game-like quiz’ templates.
At this point, you can see more details about the template before confirming it’s the one you want to use. The ‘see example’ option also lets you explore a version of the template with real content in it, so you can see if the approach feels right for your own project.
3. Plan the content
We decided this template was the right one for us, so we downloaded the storyboard and started thinking about how we wanted our content to work with the templatre.
The storyboard document follows the structure of the template, with templated sections containing guidance text to help you write your on-screen text. As we looked through the structure of the template, we realized that we wanted to adapt the design slightly – the game-like template contained 3 rounds of questions, but we only wanted 2 for our content. So we deleted that section of the storyboard and made a note to do the same when we built it into the template itself.
Top tip: templates are a helping hand to get you started, but you don’t have to follow them strictly – you can always adapt them to suit your needs.
4. Edit the template
After populating our storyboard with content we were ready to start building! We started with the structural change – removing the third round that we didn’t need – and then set about dropping our content into the pages. We also swapped out a few question interactions to better suit the questions we were asking.
5. Edit the visuals and styling as needed
We then made a few final tweaks to the styling of the layouts and added visuals to support the content and help bring the challenge to life.
6. Ready for review
After just five steps, our course was ready to go! At this stage, you can release your course and use the Review tab to get feedback from stakeholders. Then it’s time to step back and let the learning begin!
